This aircraft was the Luftwaffe’s basic transport plane, originally designed as a civil transport aircraft it went on to be used in bomber training. It saw a great deal of service during the Spanish Civil War and the land battles in Europe during the Second World War. It was a sturdy aircraft with capacity for 17 passengers. It was powered by three engines, one in the wing each side of the fuselage, with a third engine in the nose of the aircraft. This may have seemed unusual but it was very effective. Had Fighter Command not seen off the Luftwaffe in the Battle of Britain there is no doubt that we, in Britain, would have seen many more Ju52s than was actually the case in 1940.
