85 Squadron’s Geoffrey “Sammy” Allard, DFC DFM & Bar, was quite a pilot too. By all accounts, he was a remarkably gifted flyer and inspirer of men who, in the space of 11 months (Battle of France and Battle of Britain), shot down 22 confirmed plus 5 shared. Sadly, he and two other BoB pilots of 85 Sqn (Bill Hodgson and Frank Walker Smith) died in a flying accident on 13th March 1941.
The families, friends, supporters and members of 85 Sqn Renuion Association plan to mark the courage and service of these three men (and all the others who died at Debden) at a 70th anniversary commemoration event to be held at Saffron Waldon and RAF Debden on March 13th next.
Interested parties should contact me by email.
thanks,
Chris Allard

I would also like to point out Flying Officer Albert Gerald Lewis 85 sq and 249 sq. DFC with bar – 18 EA on his list.
Shouldn’t he be on the list?
